Abstract

Most of the elderly who live in Tambak Sari Kapal Village Mengwi Subdistrict Badung Regency experienced difficulty of getting to sleep or poor sleep quality, unable to sleep again, the existence of mental disorders such as depression and anxiety. The existence of sleep disorders (insomnia), the elderly cannot restore the condition of their body properly, the condition of irritability, fatigue, dizziness, anxiety, and stress which lead to suicide. One effort to overcome sleep disorders in addition to therapeutic communication or treatment is providing guided imagery relaxation therapy. The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of guided imagery relaxation techniques against the decreased level of insomnia experienced by elderly. This study was a quantitative research with one group pretest and posttest design. The sampling technique used was nonprobability sampling namely purposive sampling, with the number of samples was 27 elderly people who experienced insomnia. Data were analyzed using Wilcoxon test to compare pretest and posttest results. The results showed that p value = 0.001 therefore it could be concluded that there was the influence of guided imagery relaxation technique against the decreased level of insomnia experienced by elderly in Banjar Tambak Sari Kapal Village Mengwi Sub-district Badung Regency Bali.
