Abstract

Background: Low back pain was often during the pregnancy that was described as one of the minor disturbances in pregnancy, pain symptoms usually occur between 4-7 month og gestation. To support the management of pharmacological therapy to reduce the pain that is felt, a non-pharmacological approach is needed, such as aromatherapy. There are various kinds of aromatherapy that can be used for therapy. One of the various types of aromatherapy is ginger (zingiber Officinale). The content in ginger which is used as a component in aromatherapy has also been reported to be effective in fatigued body conditions and play a positive role in pain management. Research Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect before and after administering ginger aromatherapy to the level of lower back pain in third trimester pregnant women. Metodology: This research is a pre experimental study with a one group pretest posttest design. The sampling technique that used was purposive sampling that consisted of 27th trimester pregnant women. Data collection was carried out using observation sheets and Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) questionaires. Result: The results showed that the average value of the low back pain level before being given ginger aromatherapy was 6,67 (moderate category) and after being given ginger aromatherapy was 3,48 (mild category) with a difference of 3.19 and a significance value of 0.001 (p<0.05), statistically there was a significant difference in the mean of low back pain level after being given ginger aromatherapy intervention. Conclusions: There is an effect of giving ginger aromatherapy to the level of lower back pain in third trimester pregnant women. Key Words : Pregnant women; Low Back pain; Ginger Aromatherapy
