Abstract

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) requires long-term hemodialysis therapy that demands a high level of adherence to maintain patients’ quality of life. This study aimed to determine the relationship between adherence to hemodialysis therapy and the quality of life of CKD patients in the Hemodialysis Unit of Siloam Hospitals Bali. This research used a quantitative with an observational method and a cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 64 CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis selected using purposive sampling. The instruments used were an adherence questionnaire and the Kidney Disease Quality of Life Instrument (KDQOL-SF36). Data analysis was carried out using the Nonparametric Spearman’s rho test. The results showed that most respondents had a moderate level of adherence (70.3%) and a moderate quality of life (59.4%). The Spearman’s rho test yielded a p-value of 0.000 (<0.05), indicating a significant relationship between adherence to hemodialysis therapy and the quality of life of CKD patients in the Hemodialysis Unit of Siloam Hospitals Bali. These findings are expected to serve as a basis for nursing services to enhance patient education, motivation, and assistance so that adherence can be maintained, leading to optimal quality of life for CKD patients.
