Abstract
Congestive heart failure is the inability of the heart to pump adequate blood to meet tissue needs for oxygen and nutrients. Long-term symptoms that arise in CHF patients will affect the functional status and psychological distress, for example, depression which affects the patient's quality of life. Self-care activities can change the lifestyle and improve the quality of life of patients. This study purposed to determine the correlation between Self Care Activity and Depression Levels in CHF Patients at the Heart Polyclinic of Famili Husada Hospital. This research is a quantitative study using a descriptive correlation design with a cross-sectional approach. The total number of respondents who participated were 50 respondents and were selected using a purposive sampling technique. The instruments used were the Self Care of Heart Failure Index (SCHFI) questionnaire and The Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) questionnaire. The results showed that most of them had moderate depression levels, namely 30 respondents (60%) and sufficient self-care activity, namely 36 respondents (72%). Analysis using the Spearman rank test obtained a value of p = 0.000, which states that there was a correlation between self-care activity and depression levels in CHF patients at the heart polyclinic Famili Husada Hospital. The results of this study are expected to be able to apply holistic nursing care that is not only focused on the physical condition but the psychological condition of the patient.
