Abstract
Uncontrolled blood sugar levels in patients with diabetes mellitus will result in peripheral neuropathy in the lower extremities so that the sensitivity of the feet will decrease. Peripheral neuropathy that is not treated properly can cause venous flow obstruction and cause diabetic wounds that result in amputation. Elderly people with diabetes are suitable for doing buerger allen exercise because it has light and simple movements. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of buerger allen exercise on peripheral neuropathy of the lower extremities of elderly patients with diabetes mellitus. This study used a quasi experiment research design with a pre-post-test with control group design with simple random sampling, involving 40 human. Lower extremity peripheral neuropathy was measured before and after being given buerger allen exercise based on foot sensitivity, then data analysis was carried out with the wilcoxon test. The results of the wilcoxon test analysis obtained a p-value of 0.023 (0.023 <0.05), so it can be concluded that there is an effect of Buerger Allen Exercise on the foot sensitivity of respondents with diabetes mellitus. It is expected that all nurses teach Buerger Allen exercise to the elderly with diabetes mellitus.
